ACRES PHYLLIS MARCELLA (nee WOLF) Passed away in her sleep Friday March 7th in Powell River at the home of her daughter Kathy Maitland. At her bedside were Kathy, her husband Rob and their daughter Christina, son Michael, his wife Judy and their daughter Hilary. Phyllis was born April 2, 1914 in Viscount Saskatchewan to Henry and Ella Wolf.

When she was a child her family moved to Edmonton, Alberta where she received her education. The family then moved to Vancouver where she attended secretarial school. On August 28, 1938 at a ceremony in Penticton she married Jack Acres and went to live in Greenwood, BC where her new husband operated Acres Drug Store. The poor economy forced them to close that store in 1941 and move to Penticton where Jack worked for MacInnes Rexall Drug Store. In 1948 an opportunity to purchase a store of their own presented itself and they moved to Grand Forks, Jack's birthplace. Phyllis lived in Grand Forks until March 2001 when her medical condition forced her to move to Powell River and live with her daughter where she received loving care until her passing.

Phyllis was active in community affairs including Grand Forks Public Library, Ladies Curling Club, Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop, Anglican Church Ladies Auxiliary, Boundary Lodge Board, canvassing for the United Way, the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society and the Canadian Cancer Society but her proudest achievement was to see the construction of Centennial Abbeyfield House and to be the first resident. For years Phyllis worked in the offices of Dan Geronazzo Barrister & Solicitor where she enjoyed meeting and helping people.

She was pre-deceased by her parents and three sisters, her husband John George (Jack) Acres in 1984, and her companion of later years, John C. Benmore in 1999. She is survived by daughter Kathy Maitland (Rob) of Powell River, sons Michael (Judy) of Burnaby, BC, Daniel (Trish) of Perth Australia, Stephen of Saskatoon SK, Roger (Judy) of Surrey BC, sister in-law Jean Acres of Kelowna, BC, brother-in-law and sister in-law Walter and Dorothy Powell of Summerland, BC and many grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her wishes were that she be cremated and her ashes placed next to her husband in Evergreen Cemetery. A ceremony will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery gravesite at 10:00 AM Saturday August 2 with Rev. Simon Shenstone officiating. Immediately afterwards a drop in Tea in Celebration of her life will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Anglican Church Hall. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in the name of Phyllis to the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society. Visit her web page at: www.acresinternet.com/phyllis.nsf
