 | In 1956 Outboard Marine Corporation purchased Industrial Engineering Ltd. of Burnaby, B.C. (IEL). In 1958 the new modern factory in Burnaby B.C. was closed and manufacturing was moved to Peterborough, Ontario the Canadian base of operations where Johnson and Evinrude Outboard Motors as well as Lawn Boy Lawn Mowers were produced. Pioneer developed new models and constantly improved their product line for 21 years. then on June 16, 1977 OMC announced that they were closing Pioneer and concentrating their efforts on Outboard Motors. The employees at Pioneer formed the Pioneer Chain Saw Corporation and on May 17, 1978 were able to begin manufacturing the full Pioneer product line again in Peterborough. |
