Founded in 1927 as E. LERP & CO., Manufacturer of Portable Motor Saws. The first model built by Mr. Lerp was used for the first time on the Dolmar mountain in Thuringia and thereafter was known as the DOLMAR Chain Saw. In 1929 the name of the company was changed to DOLMAR MASCHINEN-FABRIK GmbH. Mr. Alfonso Lange joined the company as designer, test engineer and assistant technical manager. The model C saw was sold all over the world and establised the DOLMAR name in the Industry. Over 20,000 were sold. Electric Chain Saws manufactured by DOLMAR earned a reputation as reliable machines and many were sold. In 1975 Fichtel & Sachs AG purchased a majority interest and the product was marketed as SACHS-DOLMAR. In 1991 MAKITA of Japan purchased the company and now operate it as a 100% owned subsidiary.
