Company formed in 1921 as the Home Electric Lighting Co. by Mr. Charles Ferguson. In 1924 the name was changed to Homelite Corporation of America. At that time the company manufactured Electric Generators powered by their own 2-cycle engine. In 1928 they added self priming centrifugal water pumps and ventilation blowers to the product lineup. After the United States entered WWII all production was shifted to electric generators for the Military. Over 200,000 units were supplied to the Army and Navy. In 1946 a complete new line of 2-cycle engine powered generators, pumps and blowers was introduced. In 1949 Homelite introduced the model 20MCS, their first one man chain saw and in 1951 their second, the model 26LCS.
In 1955 TEXTRON bought Homelite. In 1963 the XL-12 Chain Saw was introduced.
