LOMBARD GOVERNOR CORPORATION
Comments:

The company dates from 1894. The name Lombard Governor Corporation used beginning 1902 and continued in use until 1962. The name was then changed to Lombard Industries Incorporated. The company now manufactured chain saws, plastic molding machines and offered contract machining services. In the spring of 1964 American Lincoln Corporation purchased the Lombard Chain Saw division and moved it to Toledo Ohio.
The first Lombard Chain Saws were produced in 1943. There was the model ES electric, the model PS pneumatic and the model GS gasoline powered unit. Lombard did not build their own gasoline engines but used a Homelite 24X1 series. The same 24 in. bar, chain and tailstock were used on all three types with other lengths available for the gasoline and electric units. Between 1943 and 1946 Lombard sold about 500 gasoline units all powered by the 24X1 engine. The 24X2 engine was introduced during 1946 and this was used until 1948. During this period the engine had been rated at 6 HP. In 1948 improvements had been made which allowed to be re-rated to 7 HP. Lombard then designated all GS units built up to that point as GS6 and from 1948 on as GS7. In 1949 Lombard introduced their first one man saw and called it the model OMS. It had a Homelite 20X1 engine. Shortly thereafter they switched to Power Products built engines.
